What is a Pico laser? Why does it matter?
Pico lasers (Picosecond) are known for being more capable with colour tattoos than non-pico lasers. Pico simply means the flash of light is "on" for a shorter time than a non-pico/Nanosecond laser. This means the light is better converted into kinetic energy which breaks the tattoo down as opposed to just relying on heat.
Because of this better utilised energy and precision, it can mean fewer treatments are necessary, with less trauma to the skin.

How does Laser Tattoo Removal work?
Pico laser tattoo removal uses ultra-short pulses of energy to target tattoo ink beneath the skin without damaging the surrounding tissue. These rapid pulses break the ink into tiny particles, which are then naturally cleared away by the body’s lymphatic system over time.
Because pico technology delivers energy in picoseconds (trillionths of a second), it can shatter ink more effectively than traditional lasers, often allowing for faster fading and improved results across a range of ink colours. The treatment is precise, effective, and designed to support safe tattoo removal with minimal disruption to the skin.
Pico Lasers are found in all of our Bicester, Banbury and Cheshire clinics.
While our advanced pico laser technology offers ultra-fast pulse durations for enhanced pigment breakdown, our Banbury clinic uses high-performance nanosecond laser technology, a well-established and highly effective method for tattoo removal. Nanosecond lasers deliver slightly longer pulses to fragment the ink, allowing the body to gradually clear the pigment over time. While treatment plans may vary depending on the tattoo, this technology still provides safe, reliable results for effective tattoo fading and removal.
